How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Florida?

One of the first questions we get in Brooksville is, "what's it going to cost to clear my lot?" The honest answer is: it depends — but here are the ranges we actually see in Hernando County and the factors that move the number.

Typical Florida land clearing cost ranges

• Light brush and small trees: roughly $1,500–$3,500 per acre.
• Medium density (palmetto, vines, mixed pine): roughly $3,000–$6,000 per acre.
• Heavy / wooded with large hardwoods: $5,000–$10,000+ per acre.
• Wet, swampy, or stump-haul required: add 20–40% on top.

Those are working ranges, not quotes. Two lots that look the same from the road can price very differently once we walk them.

What actually changes the price

1. Density and tree size

A half-acre of saw palmetto and pine saplings clears fast. A half-acre of mature oak takes bigger equipment, more fuel, and more disposal — even though it's the same square footage.

2. What happens to the debris

Forestry mulching turns everything into a mulch layer that stays on the ground — no hauling, no burn piles. It's usually the cheapest option in Florida. Push-and-pile with haul-off costs more because you're paying for the machine time plus dump fees.

3. Stumps

Leaving stumps in place is cheapest. Grinding stumps adds time. Full removal (digging the root ball) is the most expensive option and usually only needed if you're pouring foundation or running utilities through that exact spot.

4. Access and terrain

A flat lot off a paved road is straightforward. Wet ground, steep grades, narrow gates, and long hauls from the road all add hours.
